Artists in Communities | August 20, 2015 | The Park, Bangalore
We take pleasure in inviting you to an evening of presentations with S Kaladhar a school teacher, and artists and designers Sumona Chakravarty and Varshita Khaitan of Hamdasti, an artist collective.
Join us as our grantees take us through their journey into a community and the re-activation of these spaces through art and public participation!
Kaladhar’s project seeks to facilitate the exploration of literature from multiple perspectives for school children in Kannamangala, Chikkaballapur district, while Sumona’s project seeks to revitalise the once artistically and culturally vibrant space of Chitpur, Kolkata.
The projects from Karnataka and West Bengal with diverse contexts, promise an evening of stimulating conversations and insights. Kaladhar works with school children to bring texts alive through workshops with local writers, book makers and designers, to create a programme that encourages creative and critical thinking. Sumona, through the diverse activities of the Chitpur Local project— from pop-up libraries, examining the idea of 'hawked' stories and archives, to presentations on Chitpur's heritage art forms like printing, jatra and jewellery making— has attempted to create a cultural platform for Chitpur in the current milieu.
