India Foundation for the Arts (IFA) cordially invites you to Making Music Making Spacean event featuring an exhibition, concerts and listening sessions curated by Tejaswini Niranjana at Studio X from June 15 till July 07, 2015.

This exhibition is part funded by IFA under its Arts Practice programme.

Join us as we walk through a century of Mumbai’s Hindustani classical music heritage, using interviews, archival material, rare photographs, live recordings, and audio and video installations. This project will also feature concerts by young singers of the Jaipur, Gwalior and Agra gharanas on June 20, 27 and July 04, 2015, at 06:00 PM and listening sessions with recordings collected during the project, led by music experts Deepak Raja, Amarendra Dhaneshwar and Lalit Rao, on June 19, 26 and July 03, at 06.30 PM.

The project aims to explore Hindustani classical music as part of the intangible urban history of the metropolis of Bombay/Mumbai and examine the different cultural narratives that fed into classical music as it gained new life in late 19th century Bombay.

Tejaswini Niranjana, a cultural theorist and curator collaborated with Surabhi Sharma, film-maker and architect, Kaiwan Mehtacritic and editor, Sonal Sundararajan an architect and writer, and Farzan Dalal, an artist and exhibition designer, to examine multiple perspectives and spaces around the musicophilia of Hindustani sangeet in Mumbai.

We look forward to seeing you at the event!
