Project 560, 2015 - Curated Walks: Arts Walk in Malleswaram | October 20, 2015 | Bangalore

Registration for the third Arts Walk on October 20, 2015 is now open!

Dr J Sreenivasa Murthy, professor at MES College and resident of Malleswara, will lead us through the gullies and lanes of Malleswara, exploring the old and the new, in this corner of old Bangalore! This is the third in the series of Arts Walks, which are a part of Project 560, 2015. Project 560, 2015, an IFA initiative, partnered by Citi India, seeks to creatively engage with the city's found spaces, re-imagine them and bring them alive.

A small hamlet turned into a suburb and soon an extension, Malleswara enjoys a rich ornithological culture and a legacy steeped in tree-lined avenues, represented in the name of its streets – Coconut Avenue, Sampige Road and Margosa Road – all named after trees.

Home to scientists from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc); scholars and professors; musicians, dancers, painters, sculptors, writers and film artists; entrepreneurs, social workers and educationists – the area boasts a rich cosmopolitan heritage, which contributed to the foundation of a modern Bangalore.

The walk will begin at Kadu Malleshwara Devasthana (temple), weave past Gandhada Koti Kere, through Sampige Road and 8th cross, moving west through Margosa Road– observing institutions and residences, temples, performing places and more.

Dr J Sreenivasa Murthy is a professor at MES College, Malleswara. Born and brought up in Malleswaram, he continues to live in the locality, and has been involved in theatre for the past four decades. He has contributed articles and reviews in special issues of Kannada dailies: Vijaya Karnataka and Vijaya Vani, in addition to numerous academic publications.
