IFA@Bangalore | From Lived Experiences to the Classroom: An Arts Education Intervention at Vanavil School | Project Showcase@IFA | August 29, 2024

Join us for our next Project Showcase@IFA with members of the Vanavil School, an alternative residential school in Keezhakaraiyiruppu village near Nagapattinam, Tamil Nadu run by the Vanavil Trust. The Trust was founded by R Revathi, a filmmaker and journalist, in 2004. They received a grant in 2019, one of our first Arts-Integrated National School projects, to enable activities that encourage students of the Boom Boom Mattukaran and Narikuravar tribes to bring their lived experiences and the cultural practices of their communities into the classroom. The project sought to create stronger ties between the students, the school and community members. The project resulted in a host of activities, which include an art integrated pedagogical activity book, recordings of community songs, an exhibition and performances.

In this session, Revathi, along with Natarajan, Elakkiya, and P Selvarani, teachers at the school, will share their experiences as part of the project under the Arts Education programme at IFA.
