Sirisha Indukuri
Grant Period: over a period of one year
Sirisha is a sociologist and her approach to the “Munn Maps” will be scholarly in nature. Her interest in this particular set of maps emerged when she was pursuing her MPhil and researching the subject of rural and urban ecologies. For her research at the Kalakriti Archives, Sirisha will use the survey maps to explore the social and cultural histories of particular neighbourhoods in the city like Charminar, Abids, James Street, etc. which have the potential for multiple narratives to emerge. Sirisha will use ‘landscape as text’ to read the non-physical aspects of the city. The portraits of the neighbourhoods she intends to present will be the result of her research of the archival maps, the oral histories that she will gather from people in the area, and the histories she will garner from other specialists in the field.
Her outcomes will take the form of discussions, talks, workshops and an essay, during the term of her fellowship period. She also wishes to organise ‘walks’ in the neighbourhoods that she will venture into.
This fellowship was made possible with support from the Tata Trusts.
