For a video film, Kitte Mil Ve Mahi, by a filmmaker and a writer, on marginalised aspects of Punjab’s cultural landscape. This grant, which follows an earlier grant for preparatory work, will go towards the making of a film that will document celebrations, individuals, memorials and encounters that together embody a syncretic understanding of the region.

Grant Period: Over six months

For the installation of public sculptures created by four ceramic artists at the Kalaghoda Festival, Mumbai. The project will be disseminated through a pamphlet describing the process, a poster exhibition and a slide show.

For a clay and fibre installation by a ceramic artist and a textile artist based on interrelated themes depicted in Indian and Greek myths. The installation will be created for outdoor viewing and will be site-variable.

For the dissemination of the collaborative work of visual artist C F John, dancer/choreographer Tripura Kashyap and photographer/visual artist T M Azis in the form of two art events: a photo-exhibition and a half-hour performance around a well, and an installation/performance in an art gallery.

For collaboration among a photographer, a graphic designer and a painter to develop a body of new digital art work that would encompass photography, painting and graphic design. Through their interdisciplinary approach to image creation the artists hope to address critical debates around representation and the digital media.

For constructing and animating three children’s playhouses to function as centres of alternative education, and for developing public spaces around three community hand-pumps. An urban visual artist and three wood sculptors from Bastar will involve the community in the design and construction.

For preparatory work towards a project integrating art, research and activism, by a visual artist and an activist-writer/researcher. They will travel extensively across Gujarat, interact with different social groups and organisations, and produce artworks that constitute a secular response to the riots of 2002.

For a four-day meeting that focuses on the presentation and discussion of collaborative arts projects. Bringing together artists from different disciplines and regions, the meeting aims to trigger reflections on the processes, possibilities and challenges of collaboration in the arts while also generating suggestions for future support.

For the second stage of collaboration among a visual artist, a dancer/choreographer and a photographer/visual artist, leading to two installation/performances in Bangalore—around an open well, and in an art gallery. A travelling exhibition, a book and a commentary on the collaborative process are expected to emerge from the project.

Grant Period: Over one year and six months

For an interdisciplinary, multimedia stage production based on a poet’s anthology and put together by a dancer/choreographer, a music composer/stage designer and the poet. The resulting performance will be a visual and aural collage that will incorporate the poet’s sketches and the video footage that she shot in the wake of the Mumbai riots of 1993.
