Programmes

IFA implements projects with the aim of filling important gaps in private and public assistance for the arts and culture in India.

Our programmes variously respond to existing demand for support, provide opportunities for artists to explore untried processes and new connections in the arts, or address systemic issues in the field.

The projects we implement involve all forms of cultural expression, while accommodating work that falls outside specific domains of art, blurs disciplinary boundaries, or anticipates new modes of artistic production and presentation. 

We support and implement projects under five key programmes—Arts Research, Arts Practice, Arts Education, Archives and Museums, and Project 560, especially encouraging work in Indian languages other than English. Every 6-8 years, each of the programmes undergoes a review process that involves a panel of experts from the field. Based on the panel’s recommendations, the programme is rearticulated or a new programme comes into being.
