half-remembered memories of those who had frequented it
and the architecture of the building

We are delighted to invite you to Tales from Building No. 37, a presentation by Mahesh S and Anuj Malhotra about their project that involved research into the history, architecture, and cultural memory of an old and iconic building in Bangalore, Karnataka. 

Delving into narratives of nostalgia, dismay, hope, and indifference, Tales from Building No. 37 seeks to investigate into the conception of the skyscraper, the impact it has had on the city and imagine its possible futures. The project has resulted in an experimental documentary and a photo book. Both these artefacts seek to weave a tapestry out of the daily lives of the people working in the building and the forgotten memories and myths that are housed there, as witnessed through the lens of a curious artist. 

Mahesh is accompanied by Anuj Malhotra who is also a collaborator on the project. The presentation will be followed by a discussion which will be moderated by Sumana Chandrashekar, Programme Lead at IFA.

Mahesh is a writer and filmmaker currently based out of Bangalore. His background is in consumer research and advertising. He is working towards creating a body of work centered on urban folklore. You can follow him on Instagram: @opiq0207

Mahesh received a grant from IFA in 2019-20 under the Project 560 programme, made possible with support from Citi India and Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company.
