Madhukar ML
Grant Period: Over ten months
Madhukar’s project is built around the rich tradition of folk arts forms that celebrate the lush natural habitat of the Chamarajanagara district where the school is located. Responding to the ongoing deracination of this ecology under the onslaught of “progress,” Madhukar’s project aims to reconnect his students to their folk traditions, while revitalizing their relationship with their environment. The project will encourage students to research and collect stories, songs and materials from the surrounding village communities that articulate folk wisdom and knowledge on nature. These collections will lead to a series of workshops to create art installations with natural and found objects, exhibitions and performances that foreground environmental concerns in that region.
This grant is made possible with support from Goethe Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan, Bangalore.
