For the implementation of a Foundation Project by IFA under Arts Platforms that will enable a workshop that will focus on consolidating artistic practices, resource building and envisioning collaborations in the northeast region of India. Scheduled to take place in Shillong over three days with 12 participants, the workshop will involve seminars with artist presentations, discussions and critical peer to peer exchanges. The outcome of the project will be the workshop and the building and strengthening of SNANE as an arts platform. The Project Coordinator’s deliverables to IFA along with the final reports will be photographs and video documentation of the three-day workshop along with process documentation. Project funds will pay for contract fees, travel and living, hire of venue and hire of equipment.
For the implementation of a Foundation Project by IFA that will facilitate research, and documentation of the folklore and oral narratives based on the collections at the Ever Living Museum. The outcomes of the project will be a comprehensive map of the travels and expeditions undertaken by Mr Kyntiewbor War – the owner and curator of the Ever Living Museum – showing the locations of acquisition and discovery; recorded narrations and associated folklore of selected number of artefacts; audio-visual recordings and updated information on the origins of these objects; and outreach programmes with community members and experts to showcase and create awareness about the living culture beyond the premises of the museum. The Project Coordinator’s final deliverables to IFA along with the final reports will be the audio-visual documentation of the oral narratives, the map, the documentation of the folklore, and photos and video documentation of all the programmes. This is a collaboration with the Ever Living Museum, Shillong, Meghalaya. Project funds will pay for contract fees, travel and living, workshop and stationery.
For the implementation of a Foundation Project by IFA that will facilitate research and documentation towards creation of an inventory of the artefacts in the Heritage Section of the Ever Living Museum. The outcomes of the project will be a highly detailed inventory with photographs of all the artefacts in the Heritage Section of the Ever Living Museum, a website with the photographs and descriptions of the artefacts and oral history interviews of Kyntiewbor War, founder of the museum. The Project Coordinators’ deliverables to IFA along with the final reports will be the detailed inventory, photographs of the artefacts from the collection, a website, the oral history recordings and audio/visual documentation of the public programmes. This is a collaboration with the Ever Living Museum, Shillong, Meghalaya. Project funds will pay for hire of equipment, contract fees, exhibition, stationery, materials, website hosting and domain charges, and travel and living.
For the implementation of a Foundation Project by IFA that will facilitate research, development and execution of a range of outreach programmes aimed at engaging students through educational and interactive experiences in Shillong, Meghalaya. The outcomes of the project will be a series of educational programmes under categories of: interactive workshops, guided tours and activities, storytelling, and other collaborative projects. The Project Coordinator’s deliverables to IFA along with the final reports will be photos and video documentation of all the programmes, a comprehensive analysis of the participant’s feedback and a report on the outreach programmes documenting the learnings, impact and suggested recommendations. This is a collaboration with the Ever Living Museum, Shillong, Meghalaya. Project funds will pay for contract fees, travel and living, food and stationery.
For the Foundation Project implemented by IFA which will explore the role that the music programmes of the All India Radio Aizawl played in the lives of ordinary people in Mizoram, amid the depressing reality of insurgency and state repression. It aims to problematise simplistic narratives and offer a more nuanced understanding of peace and progress in contemporary discussions. The project will enquire into the shared sense of community experienced by the listeners and its impact on their faith and identity. The outcome of this project will be a monograph. The Project Coordinator’s deliverables to IFA, along with the final reports, will be a monograph and audiovisual documentation from the field. Project funds will pay for contract fees, travel and living, and archive fees.
For the implementation of a Foundation Project by IFA under Explorations which will experiment with creating an interactive e-comic book accompanied by soundtracks and visualisations, giving contemporary inflections to stories from Khasi folklore. The outcome of the project will be the interactive e-comic book, with an accompanying soundtrack as a YouTube album playlist with visualisations. The Project Coordinator’s deliverables to IFA with the final report will be a soft copy of the e-comic book, offline versions of the soundtracks and visualisations, and links to the YouTube album playlist. Project funds will pay for contract fees, travel and living, hire of equipment, and stationery.
For the implementation of a Foundation Project by IFA under Productions, to create a series of photographs that examine notions of identity and contestations around questions of faith and nation-building among the Niam Khasi people. Through detailed field research, the project will problematise the monochromatic, linear narratives about the history of faith in Meghalaya, offering nuanced understandings of historical and contemporary debates within Meghalaya and in the Indian geopolitical context. The outcomes of this project will be a series of photographs, a set of picture postcards, a book and an exhibition. The Project Coordinator’s deliverables to IFA with the final report will be the photographs, the picture postcards, the book, and still and video documentation of the exhibition. Project funds will pay for honorarium, travel and living, book design and production, professional fees, venue hire, printing and the exhibition.
For the creation of a feature length fiction film titled Lorni—The Flaneur. The project attempts to question the formation of Khasi identity, challenges the aesthetics and language of mainstream commercial cinema and poses an alternative to the industrial model of revenue in favour of indigenous experimental filmmakers. The outcome will be a film. The Grantee's deliverables to IFA with the Final Report will be the film, a music video, final script, scanned soft copies of story boards, rush footage, productions stills and publicity material. Grant funds will pay for costs towards an honorarium, post-production, professional fees, sound mixing, publicity and material, studio hire, and an accountant’s fee.
For research into the narratives of the Khla or the tiger as a cultural, social and political symbol in Khasi cultural practices. Inquiring into oral traditions, existing literature and cultural artefacts, this project seeks to understand the gender and political connotations of the tiger; the transitions that have taken place in the tiger cult of Meghalaya post the influence of Christianity; and the changes in human-tiger relationships that have been affected by modern environment laws. The outcome of this project will be an exhibition and a website.
