Throwback Thursday #8 | Watch 'Ema Gi Wari (Stories of My Mother)' online | A Session by Ronidkumar Chingangbam aka Akhu
The session titled Ema Gi Wari (‘Stories of My Mother’) featured Ronidkumar Chingangbam aka Akhu, a singer/songwriter and poet from Manipur. He received two grants from IFA, under the Arts Practice programme.
The grants enabled Akhu to research, create and disseminate a musical performance based on notions of Manipuri identity that lie embedded in literature and folklore of the Meitei diaspora. Through extensive field trips and interviews, the project explored the histories, stories, and songs of the Meitei community and its subsequent migration, to understand the constructions and erasures of identity - both within and outside of Manipur.
Watch the video for songs, stories and histories of the Manipuri diaspora spread across Assam and Bangladesh.
