Extending Arts Practice

This programme was closed in 2014.

The Extending Arts Practice (EAP) programme was started in 2005 to support artists, curators and arts collectives to develop and undertake projects that help extend their own artistic practice, or challenge prevalent practices within their fields.

The programme consisted of

i) research grants that facilitated the exploration of a new form, a fresh style or a new idiom within artistic practice;

ii) production grants towards realising a critical and reflective art project that challenges the artists’ or curators’ practice while simultaneously offering audiences new ways of experiencing art;

iii) dissemination grants to enable a wider public to critically engage with work that has been previously supported by an EAP research or production grant; and iv) residency grants that nurture critical and reflective arts practice among emerging artists.

Between 2005 and 2014 the programme supported 44 projects.

The TAKE on RESIDENCIES symposium in July 2013 at 1 Shanthi Road, Bangalore was an opportunity for artists, curators, organisations hosting residencies, and funders to come together to deliberate the pedagogic possibilities and challenges of residencies.

The programme was closed in 2014 after a review by a panel of experts comprising of Sadanand Menon, Madhusree Dutta, Shubha Mudgal, and Vivan Sundaram. Based on the panel’s recommendations the Arts Practice programme (2015-2021) was launched to support critical projects across and inter disciplines.
