Special Grants
This initiative was closed in 2012.
Special Grants were instituted in 2004, focusing on exciting new work in the arts that did not fit within the framework of other programmes at IFA.
Special Grants were earmarked for four areas:
i) initiatives that set non-profit arts organisation and/or their programmes on the path to becoming more self-reliant,
ii) projects that brought together artists and/ or arts groups to collectively address their interests,
iii) projects concerning community-based arts practices that addressed issues of livelihood, revitalisation and sustenance; and
iv) support for art forms and artists working in constraining social and political environments.
Between 2004 and 2012 the programme supported 15 projects.
It was closed in 2012 with the hope that the areas we wished to support would be subsumed under the freshly rearticulated research and practice programmes after their reviews.
